Douglas Albreski, DPM a podiatrist, is a graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency training at the Rotating Hospital Based Podiatric Residency Program of the Newington VA Medical Center. Dr. Albreski is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. He is the director of Podiatric Dermatology Services, co-director of the High Risk Foot Clinic and an assistant professor of dermatology. He specializes in skin surgery of the foot, wound care, diabetic foot complications as well as all problems of the foot. He is actively involved in research related to diabetic skin disease, fungal infections and eczematous dermatitis. Dr. Albreski is married with a son. Besides family time, he enjoys mountain biking and running a few races a year with his favorite being the Disney half marathon.

Tanya Ave’Lallemant, MD a dermatology specialist, is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She completed a residency in dermatology at Brown University Medical School/Rhode Island Hospital. In addition to general medical and surgical dermatology services, Dr. Ave’Lallemant performs cosmetic dermatology treatments including Botox, chemical peels and laser removal of hair, age spots, tattoos and blood vessels. Dr. Ave’Lallemant enjoys spending time with her husband and son hiking, biking and cooking. |

Adrienne Berke, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and the assistant director of the Dermatopathology Laboratory at the University of Connecticut. He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology. She completed a dermatopathology fellowship at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Berke has been on the faculty in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut Health Center since 1988. She has co-authored several articles, reviews, case reports and book chapters. Dr. Berke enjoys hiking, swimming and biking. |

Nicole Bossenbroek, MD joined the faculty at University of Connecticut Health Center in 2008 as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology. Originally from Michigan, she is a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. She completed her residency training in dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI and her fellowship training in dermatopathology at NYU Medical Center, New York, NY.

Mary Wu Chang, MD is Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at University of Connecticut. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology. Dr. Chang did a pediatrics residency at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco where she served as Chief Resident. She completed a dermatology residency at Wayne State University at Detroit Medical Center, where she also served as Chief Resident. She was on faculty at NYU Dept of Dermatology for 7 years. In 2005, Dr. Chang founded the Department of Dermatology at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at University of CT. Dr. Chang is the Program Chair for the Section on Dermatology for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is an Associate Editor for Journal Watch Dermatology. Dr. Chang has authored over 50 original articles and book chapters, and frequently lectures across the country on pediatric dermatology.

Judy Colligan, R.N. is a registered nurse who came to UConn 5 years ago from the west coast where she worked at the University of California Dermatology practice and part time at Kaiser Permanente Dermatology practice in San Francisco. She is the clinical trials coordinator. Her interests are medical and cosmetic dermatology. Since relocating to the east she has forgotten how much she enjoys the winter in the east and enjoys all winter sports and activities.

Christina Garcia, APRN is a family nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics and dermatology. She grew up in Wisconsin and received her BSN from University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in 2004 with an MSN from Quinnipiac University. Since then she has been working in dermatology. Her strongest interest is in pediatric dermatology but she enjoys seeing patients of all ages with any dermatology problem. She is a clinical instructor for graduate nursing students from across the state. |

Jane M. Grant-Kels, MD attended Smith College, Dartmouth, and Cornell University Medical College. She did her pediatrics and dermatology residency programs at Cornell’s New York Hospital and Memorial Hospital. Following this, she completed a fellowship in dermatohistopathology at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Grant-Kels is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Dermatopathology. She joined UConn in 1980 and is the assistant dean of clinical affairs; professor and chairperson of the Department of Dermatology and the director of Dermatopathology. Married since 1974, she has two grown children. Her husband is an ophthalmologist in Hartford and a 2002 graduate of the University of Connecticut Law School. Dr. Grant-Kels enjoys seeing patients of all ages, patients with atypical moles, with sun damaged skin who have a predisposition for skin cancer, and anyone who would like to look as young as they feel.

Diane M. Hoss, MD a dermatology specialist, grew up in Connecticut and graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She performed her residency in dermatology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dr. Hoss performed a clinical fellowship in dermatopathology at New York Hospital. Dr. Hoss is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Dermatopathology. She is the director of the Hair Loss and Scalp Disorders Clinic and associate professor of dermatology. She specializes in hair loss and scalp disorders. Dr. Hoss enjoys gardening, playing the piano, singing in her church choir and spending time with her husband and four children.

Philip E. Kerr, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated college and medical school from the University of Minnesota. He performed his residency in dermatology at Brown University in Rhode Island, and a fellowship in dermatopathology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Kerr is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology. He joined the University of Connecticut Health Center in 2003. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, music and outdoor activities. |

Arni Kristjansson, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut. He graduated for University of Iceland. He performed his residency in dermatology at University of Iowa, Iowa City, and a fellowship in dermatopathology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Dr. Kristjansson is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology. He joined the University of Connecticut Health Center in 2007. He enjoys spending time with his family, fly fishing, skiing, soccer and outdoor activities.

Wendy Levinbook, MD is Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut. She is board certified in Dermatology. Dr. Levinbook completed her dermatology residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire where she served as Chief Resident. In August 2002, Dr. Levinbook joined the University of Connecticut faculty where she directed the start-up of a new dermatology
clinic in East Hartford, CT. Her interests are general medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She has authored several original articles and book chapters on a variety of topics.

Hanspaul Makkar, MD is Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Makkar is a fellowship-trained Mohs Micrographic Surgeon and Dermatologic Surgeon at UConn, and also a Pediatric Dermatologist. He is Board Certified in Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology. Originally from Toronto, Canada, he completed hid undergraduate and medical education at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Makkar completed his medical internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, followed by Dermatology residency at the University of California, San Francisco, where is also served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Makkar’s clinical interests include pigmented lesions in children, birthmarks, vascular anomalies and pediatric dermatologic surgery.

Michael John Murphy, MD is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut. He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Dermatopathology and Molecular Diagnostics. Dr. Murphy did his anatomic pathology residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, Boston MA, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed a dermatopathology fellowship at Albany Medical Center, Albany NY. Dr. Murphy has been on faculty in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut Health Center for 6 years. He has co-authored over 30 original articles, reviews, case reports and book chapters, and frequently lectures on dermatopathology.

Amy Payne, MD, a medical dermatologist, is a graduate of University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. She completed a residency at the University of Virginia. She practices general medical dermatology. She is married and has two children.

Marti Rothe, MD joined the Dept of Dermatology at UConn in 1988 immediately after completing her residency training at University of Miami School of Medicine. She graduated from the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University Medical School where she also interned in internal medicine. Dr. Rothe is a medical dermatologist with a strong interest in the evaluation and management of severe presentations of psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and vitiligo. She has collaborated with her mentors from the University of Miami and colleagues in the department at UConn in publishing multiple review articles, book chapters, and case reports. |

Karren Slade, APRN, is a Nurse Practioner and Clinical Instructor in Dermatology since 2000. In addition to her nursing degrees, she has an undergraduate degree in nutrition and is currently studying nutritional modalities of treatment in Ayurvedic medicine. She is Director of Dermatology Nursing, and the Associate Director of Clinical Research for the department of Dermatology. Karren is active in professional and community activities for the promotion of skin cancer prevention. She is an experienced preceptor for nurse practioner students from across the state.

Brett Sloan, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Connecticut. He obtained his medical degree in 1994 from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland and completed his residency in Texas, through the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. Dr. Sloan is board certified and practices both general medical and surgical dermatology with specific interests in nail diseases, geriatric dermatology, psoriasis, skin cancer, infectious diseases of the skin, acne and rosacea. He is a decorated Air Force veteran who served as a flight surgeon for seven years, and is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has presented at local and national professional meetings.

James Whalen, MD is Associate Professor of Dermatology and Surgery at the University of Connecticut and has been a part of the University of Connecticut’s faculty since 1994. He is a Board Certified Dermatologist and fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery. He completed his dermatology and Mohs surgery training at Brown University. Originally from Kentucky, he completed his undergraduate, medical school and internship at the University of Louisville. He is Vice Chair of the Department of Dermatology and the director of the division of Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Whalen’s interest includes the management of patients with skin cancer and the surgical removal of cutaneous neoplasm. |

Diane Whitaker-Worth, MD is an associate professor of dermatology at the Univ of CT Health Center. She has been here since 1992. She completed her residency in dermatology at Brown University in Providence, RI. She has served as director of clinical education for many years and oversees a large number of medical students and internal medicine residents each year as they complete their required dermatology electives. She has also headed the monthly grand rounds program at the University of CT in dermatology. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages with a variety of skin problems. |
