Application
Process

Categorical
and Primary Care Programs
All applications are processed
through ERAS. Applications are processed as early as September and
are accepted through December 1st. All Applications are reviewed
and should include: a completed ERAS form, Dean's Letter, Transcript,
personal statement, and 3 Letters of Recommendation. General guidelines
include the following:
- USMLE parts 1& 2;
passed on first attempt. These scores must be part of the application.
- Medical School graduation
(including required internship) should be within 5 years of residency
application.
- Interviews are conducted
from early November through the end of January.
- Only J-1 visas are available
for those candidates who are not permanent residents. The University
will NOT sponsor H1b Visas.
- United States, Canada
or United Kingdom clinical experience is desirable, but not required
for consideration.
- Clinical Skills Assessment
must be completed prior to January 1.
- Valid ECFMG certificate
for graduates of foreign medical schools.
- Application deadline is
December 1st.
Interviews are by invitation
only. Once the application is complete and reviewed, selected candidates
will be invited by letter or e-mail and will be asked to call to
schedule an interview date.
The interview day begins
at approximately 8:00am and ends at approximately 3:00pm. The applicant
will visit the University of Connecticut Health Center and either
Hartford Hospital, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, or
New Britain General Hospital, or, Connecticut Children's Medical
Center (CCMC). The day includes an opportunity to speak with faculty
and house officers, and to tour the facilities. The applicant is
welcome to return for a second visit. A limited number of PGY 2
and PGY 3 positions may be available. Applications for those positions
follow the same guidelines.
Osteopathic Programs
Applicants from Osteopathic
Medical Schools applying for the Rotating Internship should apply
through ERAS by December 1st. All applications are reviewed and
should include: a completed ERAS form, Dean's Letter, Transcript,
and 3 Letters of Recommendation. General guidelines specific to
the Osteopathic Programs include:
- Graduation from AOA accredited
college of Osteopathic Medicine within the last three years.
- Member of the AOA.
- COMLEX 1 passed. These
scores must be part of the application.
All applicants
considered for acceptance will be scheduled for an interview with
the Program Director and other faculty.
Admission will not be influenced by race, color, religion, creed,
national origin, age, or handicap.
Med/Peds
Applicants to
the Internal Medicine/Pediatrics program must meet the general requirements
of the individual categorical programs and must apply through the
ERAS program. Applicants should pass USMLE 1 on the first try be
considered for an interview. In addition, interviewed candidates
must pass the USMLE 2 clinical knowledge section to be ranked (so
that documented results must be available by the program rank date).
For the 2004-2005 season, successful performance on the USMLE 2
clinical skills section is expected but will be dealt with on an
individual basis due to the complications with its introduction.
Applicants who
are being considered for ranking will be offered tours and interviews
in both programs on one of four days.
