Osteopathic
Residency
The
great success of the Traditional Rotating Osteopathic Internship
here at the University of Connecticut Health Center has resulted
in the creation of our Osteopathic Residency Program. This is a
three-year program that satisfies all of the AOA and ACGME requirements
for both internships and residencies. The Osteopathic Residency
Program is fully integrated into the Internal Medicine Residency
Program. We offer three positions each year for this dually-accredited
program.
The internship
year of this three-year program is designed to provide housestaff
with a full spectrum of clinical experience and patient care responsibilities,
while still meeting all the requirements of the Traditional Rotating
Osteopathic Internship. The curriculum of this first year provides
an outstanding educational experience and foundation in Internal
Medicine, Family Practice, Women's Health, Ambulatory Surgery, and
Emergency Medicine. Rotations in Cardiology, Pulmonary Medicine,
Dermatology, and Radiology round out the year. Second and third
year residents in the Osteopathic Residency Program will build on
the strong foundation of the internship year with rotations in General
Medicine, Critical Care, and a wide array of Medicine and non-Medicine
electives. In addition to the core curriculum, all residents in
the Osteopathic Residency Program will maintain one Primary Care
continuity clinic, as well as one continuity clinic in Musculoskeletal
Medicine.
Residents in
the Osteopathic Residency Program may apply to both Osteopathic
and Allopathic Fellowships Programs.
Graduates of
this three-year Residency Program will be board-eligible for both
the AOBIM and ABIM Internal Medicine Boards.
All applications
must be made through ERAS. Please note that ERAS describes this
three-year program as a "Traditional Rotating Internship linked
with an Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency Program".
