Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program

dr. allenOverview: Our mission is to prepare physicians to practice high quality Internal Medicine in both inpatient and ambulatory settings, to deliver this to diverse patient populations, to individuals, as well as to communities. Our goal is to train you to be an excellent generalist physician, with expertise ranging from managing complex Internal Medicine problems to providing preventive care and health maintenance. We emphasize office practice experience, continuity of care, and health promotion for the primary care physician. Residents participate in scholarly activities that can range from lab or clinical research to local and national presentations.

We have an innovative curriculum, exposure to a broad mix of patient populations, and faculty committed to teaching, in a collegial and supportive environment. Graduates are successful in pursuing careers in General Medicine or Subspecialty Fellowships.

The Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program has 16 residents in each of the three years plus three chief residents. Each academic year is divided into 13 four-week block rotations that highlight both inpatient and outpatient experiences.

Starting in the PGY-2 year, all residents have a second longitudinal ambulatory clinic that is in a hospital-based or private office setting and can be in a generalist or a subspecialist practice. All residents participate in a Professional Development curriculum. Residents may opt to enter either a Hospitalist or Women's Health track by completing specialized electives. The program has developed an internet-accessible, case-based inpatient and ambulatory curriculum. Other internet-based tools are used for assessing interpretive skills and for reporting evaluations.

The core curriculum of the Residency Program involves General Inpatient Medicine, Critical Care, Ambulatory Care, continuity clinic, hospitalist rotation, electives/selectives, Geriatrics, And Emergency Medicine.

We encourage you to come take a closer look.
