Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program
Overview:
Our mission is
to prepare physicians to practice high-quality Internal Medicine
and to deliver innovative and effective health care to society,
now, and in the future. Our goal is to train Generalists who are
able to use superior clinical judgment and practice independently.
We emphasize evidence-based Medicine, clinical problem-solving,
and the scientific method. We have designed a dynamic curriculum
and a rich environment that promotes growth and independence.
The Categorical
Internal Medicine Residency Program has an intern class of 26 and
a total program size of approximately 85, including Chief Medical
Residents. Each academic year is divided into thirteen 4-week block
rotations that highlight both inpatient and outpatient experiences.
A small group
of residents may enter either a Hospitalist or Women's
Health track after completing a core internship common to all
categorical residents. Differentiation into a Women's Health or
Hospitalist track occurs in the second year, by way of approximately
four specialized electives. Additional track-specific curricula
may include a track-oriented second continuity clinic, research
opportunities, journal clubs, and mentoring programs.
The core curriculum
of the Residency Program involves General
Inpatient Medicine, Ambulatory
Care, Critical
Care, Emergency
Medicine, electives,
Geriatrics,
and continuity
clinics. |
