child neurology
Pediatric neurology, based at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, provides neurologic services throughout the community. The division is active in resident education and scholarly pursuits that reflect their service commitment. Division members are actively involved in acute care problems in inpatient services, including PICU and NICU, and with outpatient problems as well. In addition, they are devoted to meeting the needs of children with chronic diseases such as epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, headache, pain, tics, learning disabilities, cognitive impairment, genetic diseases, degenerative disorders, and the neurologic problems of cancer.
A full range of diagnostic modalities needed for children with neurologic problems supplements evaluations by the pediatric neurology faculty, including: EEG and telemetry, EMG, nerve conduction, evoked potentials, CT scan, MRI, angiography, and metabolic studies. The division interacts actively with related services such as neurosurgery, psychiatry, psychology, genetics, ophthalmology, and rehabilitation services. There are active programs and research in neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetics, epilepsy, and neurobehavioral problems. Residents are an integral part of these efforts during their service rotations, and during elective and research efforts.
