child psychiatry
The Affiliated Division of Child Psychiatry, based at The Institute of Living and Connecticut Children's Medical Center, offers a broad range of services throughout the program. Division members provide patient assessment, recommendations for referral to short-term treatment on a consultative basis, and in-depth hospitalization and outpatient care in dedicated units.
The evaluations of the child psychiatry faculty are supported by the necessary diagnostic and collaborative services, including psychology, social services, rehabilitation, family support, neurology, and neurophysiology.
Resident teaching occurs during didactic presentations, through service and elective consultations, and through available electives in child psychiatry. The focus is on identification and treatment of psychiatric problems that may affect patient symptomatology, on issues of compliance, on facilitation of interview skills, on familiarity with differential diagnosis, and on assessment and triage of suicidal and dangerous patients.
