program description

endocrinology fellowship program

The overall goal of our three year training program is to produce capable board-eligible pediatric endocrinologists whose competencies include clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of pediatric endocrine disorders , an ability to design and implement a meaningful research project and appreciate the central role of research in enhancing our ability to diagnose and treat endocrine disorders, and the ability to effectively convey their knowledge to others. Our training program emphasizes the importance of self-learning, critical analysis of clinical and research problems, and of cultivating the process of clinical decision-making. It also emphasizes the importance of achieving the best possible clinical outcomes for all patients by being compassionate, ethical, and culturally-sensitive. The training program faculty is comprised of clinician-teachers and research mentors who are committed to these goals. CCMC, the principal site for the training program, along with Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut Health Center collectively contain the resources and facilities for carrying out these clinical, educational, and research goals.

The pediatric endocrinology fellowship is fully accredited, and compliant with the American Board of Pediatrics subspecialty requirements as well. The curriculum is competency-based and addresses skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to be an effective pediatric endocrinologist. Research opportunities range from clinical studies to basic sciences, and a full range of scholarly activities are available to all fellows.
