Requirements

Requirements:

1. Neurology Residency Training
A complete neurology residency is 48 months. Applicants must have successfully completed their neurology residency at an accredited United States training program.

2. International Medical Graduates
Our program welcomes International Medical Graduates that hold a valid ECFMG certificate. (This does not apply to Canadian graduates.)

3. Year of Graduation
Neurology Residency graduation should be within 2 years of fellowship application.

4. Visas: (if applicable)
The University of Connecticut only sponsors the J-1 visa for those candidates who are not permanent residents or US Citizens. The University will NOT sponsor H1b visas.

5. USMLE Exams
USMLE exams of Part I, II, and III (or equivalent) must be passed to begin fellowship positions.

App Process

All applications are processed as early as January 1st and are accepted through May 1st. All applications are reviewed and should include:

1. A completed application form
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Personal Statement (Letter of Intent)
4. Three (3) current letters of recommendation
5. USMLE exams 1, 2, & 3
6. Valid ECFMG certificate (for foreign medical school graduates)

Interviews are by invitation only. Once the application is complete and reviewed, selected candidates will be invited by letter via e-mail and will be asked to call to schedule an interview date. Interviews are conducted on Thursdays

The interview day begins approximately 7:30 with Grand Rounds at Hartford Hospital. The interview process begins at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. at which time candidates meet with the neurovascular specialists from both Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut. Applicants will have an opportunity to tour Hartford Hospital, have lunch with some of our residents, and wrap up the day with the Program Director. The day should conclude at approximately 2:00 pm.
